A quick word about "Strand":

I know many of you searching for "Hurghada Strand" are from Germany — it means "beach" after all! You've come to the right place. Hurghada has 40km of coastline, and I've spent 20 years exploring every metre of it.

Whether you want a free local beach, a day pass to a resort, or a full VIP beach club experience — I'll help you find your perfect stretch of Red Sea paradise.

🗺️ Beach Overview

Hurghada's beaches stretch along the Red Sea coast in different zones, each with its own character:

🆓 Public Beaches (Free Access)

Yes, there are free beaches in Hurghada! They're not fancy, but they're real — and the water is the same beautiful Red Sea.

Free Entry

Dahar Public Beach

📍 Old Town (Dahar), near the bazaar

The most authentic local beach experience. Mostly Egyptian families. Simple but clean. Bring your own towel or rent a sunbed from vendors.

🏊 Calm Water 🍦 Vendors 👨‍👩‍👧 Family-Friendly
🍽️ Nearby Dining

El Masry — 5 min walk. Authentic Egyptian food at local prices. Their koshari is legendary.

Free Entry

Senzo Mall Beach Area

📍 Near Senzo Mall, Sekalla

More touristy than Dahar but still free access. Better facilities. Close to shops and restaurants. Popular with both tourists and locals.

🛍️ Near Shops 🚿 Basic Facilities 🚌 Easy Access
🍽️ Nearby Dining

Senzo Mall Food Court — International options including McDonald's, plus local restaurants on the beach road.

💡
Salem's Pro Tip: Public beaches are best visited in the early morning (before 9am) or late afternoon (after 4pm). You'll have more space, better temperatures, and can catch the sunset. Weekdays are quieter than Fridays (the Egyptian weekend).

🏨 Resort & Day Pass Beaches

Most hotels along the coast offer day passes to non-guests. This is the best value way to enjoy premium beaches without booking a room.

Day Pass: €30-50

Makadi Bay Resorts

📍 Makadi Bay (30km south)

Some of the best coral reefs accessible directly from the beach. Crystal-clear water, soft sand, full resort amenities. Multiple 5-star options.

🍽️ Dining Options

Day passes often include lunch buffet. The beach bars serve fresh seafood and cocktails with your feet in the sand.

Day Pass: €40-60

Sahl Hasheesh Beach

📍 Sahl Hasheesh (25km south)

The most upmarket beach area near Hurghada. Venetian-style architecture, pristine beaches, underwater statues for snorkelling. Very Instagrammable.

🍽️ Nearby Dining

The Piazza restaurants offer Italian, Oriental, and seafood with stunning bay views.

🧘 Spa Retreats ⛳ Golf Course 🤿 Outstanding Diving
🍽️ Dining Options

Resort restaurants range from beachside grills to fine dining. The Breakers has excellent fresh fish.

✨ Premium Beach Clubs

When you want the full VIP experience — DJ sets, cocktail service, cabanas, and beautiful people watching — head to a beach club.

Magawish Island Beach

📍 Magawish Island (boat trip included)

The ultimate beach day experience. Private island, powdery white sand, snorkelling, unlimited food and drinks. They pick you up from your hotel in the morning and drop you back at sunset. It's basically paradise with a DJ.

❓ Beach FAQs

Are there public beaches in Hurghada?

Yes! There are several free public beaches, mainly in the Dahar (old town) area and some sections of Sekalla. They are clean and safe, though less maintained than resort beaches. Bring your own sunbed or rent one for €2-5.

Can I use resort beaches without staying there?

Many resorts offer day passes for €20-50 depending on the property. This includes use of the beach, pool, sunbeds, and sometimes lunch. It is an excellent way to experience premium beaches without the hotel price.

Which beach is best for families in Hurghada?

Makadi Bay beaches are excellent for families — shallow entry, calm waters, and full resort facilities. For a free option, the public beach near Senzo Mall offers calm conditions and is family-friendly.

Where can I find beach restaurants in Hurghada?

The Marina area has the best concentration of restaurants with sea views. El Gouna also has excellent beachside dining. For a more local experience, the fish restaurants near Sekalla beach serve fresh catch daily.

How do I get to remote beaches like Soma Bay?

Soma Bay, Sahl Hasheesh, and Makadi Bay are 20-45 minutes from central Hurghada. You can book a private transfer, take a taxi (negotiate price first), or arrange transport through your hotel.

🦐

My personal favourite beach moment:

I've been to every beach on this coast, and my favourite thing is still a simple one: arriving at Makadi Bay at 7am when the beach is empty, snorkelling the house reef before anyone else is awake, then having a lazy breakfast by the pool watching the sun climb higher.

You don't need a fancy beach club to have a perfect day — though those are brilliant too. The Red Sea is the real star. Everything else is just details.
